Who is Baltimore Reclaiming?
We are a group of witches, artists, pagans, healers, activists, queers, priestesses, anarchists, theater geeks, feminists, and other good humans. We see our work as teaching and making magic: the art of empowering ourselves and each other. In our classes, workshops, and public rituals, we train our voices, bodies, energy, intuition, and minds. We use the skills we learn to deepen our strength, both as individuals and as community, to voice our concerns about the world in which we live, and bring to birth a vision of a new culture. We gather, mostly on the Sabbats, to work magic, often for personal healing and also for the healing of our society and planet. We believe that the work we do together in our sacred circles really can change the world.
What is Imbolc?
Imbolc is one of the traditional Celtic fire festivals. Falling at the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, it is a Gaelic festival marking the earliest signs of spring. The lengthening days and the pregnancy of ewes (Imbolc actually means "in the belly") were all signs that the long hard winter was going to soon end. Though there may still be hard times ahead, the worst is over, and plans can be made for the spring and summer season. Imbolc is also sometimes called Brigid, as the holiday was associated with the goddess Brigid and became St. Brigid's Day when Catholicism sought to spread across the British Isles. Modern pagans celebrate this as one of the sabbats of the Wheel of the Year, and traditionally use this holiday to make dedications, commit to intentions, and begin new work.
