Ritual at 6:30 pm (upstairs main hall; please arrive beginning at 6:00pm)

Homewood Friends Meeting House

3107 North Charles Street, Baltimore Maryland 21218

Ritual Description:
The New Year opens in darkness, and we arrive at Imbolc, where we come together to share our decision-making, craft our intentions, and empower them in community.  This season, we are challenged to act with discernment, and make choices in the face of uncertainty, judging what is necessary, what is wanted, and what can be trusted.   We will be having a hybrid experience working candle magic together in ritual space in-person at Homewood Friends, and simulcasting virtually over Zoom!

What are you ready and willing to call forth into your life at this time? What are your most desired goals and outcomes?  We will engage the counsel of the archetypal powers and allies to help us craft short, pithy phrases that represent our individual intentions, so the community can hear and amplify them, multiplying the impact of the magic embodied in our candles.

We will gather in-person at Homewood Friends on Saturday at 2pm to decorate candles.  You are also welcome to decorate your candle on your own. Please have a glass container for your candle regardless. Your candle can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish—the intention is truly what matters.  After an hourlong break, we will invoke ritual space, and start making magic!

About our Imbolc Ritual:

Our Imbolc candle ritual has been a long-standing tradition in the Baltimore Reclaiming community. This is a time when we come together to share our intentions for the coming year and support each other with these intentions. The ritual will take part in two different sections. First, you will be invited to use the water of the well to envision yourself living out your intention. In the second part of the ritual, you will have an opportunity to speak your intention allowed and light your candle in community.

To prepare for this ritual, think of something that you would like to manifest for yourself, or your community, or the world. If you choose, you can decorate a candle to support your intention for the coming year. You do not need to do anything elaborate. It can be simply a few words or a blank candle with your intentions in it. It can also be very elaborate. Whatever feels right.

Next, we will come together on the night of the ritual to share our candles and our intentions. The ritual will allow us to support each other with our work. Please think of a short pithy phrase that represents your intention so that we can echo it back to you and charge your candle with yummy Baltimore Reclaiming Magic.

Be prepared, this spell has been known to work!

Who is Baltimore Reclaiming?

Baltimore Reclaiming is a radically inclusive community of witches who use our magic to bring transformation, justice and healing to ourselves, Baltimore and the world. We are a group of witches, artists, pagans, healers, activists, queers, priestesses, anarchists, theater geeks, feminists, and other good humans. We see our work as teaching and making magic: the art of empowering ourselves and each other. In our classes, workshops, and public rituals, we train our voices, bodies, energy, intuition, and minds. We use the skills we learn to deepen our strength, both as individuals and as community, to voice our concerns about the world in which we live, and bring to birth a vision of a new culture. We gather, mostly on the Sabbats, to work magic, often for personal healing and also for the healing of our society and planet. We believe that the work we do together in our sacred circles really can change the world.

Cost: Baltimore Reclaiming does not charge for our events, but we do have considerable expenses which include renting the space and buying supplies for the ritual! For transparency's sake, this ritual is costing us about $200. We recommend a $10-$20 donation per person. You can bring cash or send money ahead of time via PayPal to ritual@baltimorereclaiming.org or via Venmo to 303-819-7843. No one is turned away for lack of funds. You are fully welcome regardless of your ability to financially donate.

Drugs & Alcohol: All Baltimore Reclaiming events are drug and alcohol free. We respectfully request that you do not use drugs or alcohol before or while attending our events.

Scent Policy: We strive to accommodate people who have chemical and scent sensitivities. Please keep these people in mind as you make choices about wearing scented personal hygiene products.

Masking Policy: Baltimore Reclaiming has made the decision this year to make masking encouraged, but optional. Please test for Covid before coming, and don't come if you're feeling sick!

What to Expect: New to Baltimore Reclaiming? Visit our Rituals page to learn more about what to expect at an event.

Dress Code: Wear whatever you like! You are welcome to wear everything from jeans and a t-shirt to a tuxedo. Often, people like to wear something special for ritual which might mean a favorite dress, a special shawl, a flower crown, or something else. We encourage you to wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.
